[laughter]

Hello?

Hey.

What are you guys doing here?

I thought Amy was staying with you?

Iím sorry, Helen. Something came up.

Something came up?

Come on, Jack, Iíve gotta work this weekend.

What are we gonna do with her?

Mommy-

Amy-

Is the something blonde? Answers to the name ìAngie?î

Hey, kiddo? See you soon. Love you.

I love you.

Bye, Dad.

Amy, go to your room.

Why? What have I done?

[door slams]

GO. Jack!

So thatís it. No discussion?

Not when youíre being irrational.

Me irrational? Amy needs structure. She needs to know when youíre gonna be around.

Iím haviní a really hard time with this.

OK? You kick me out, you push me away, then you want me around. Make your mind up!

You were a lousy husband. At least try to be a half-decent father.

Great. Thanks, Jack.

Itís all about you, isnít it? You wanna know why youíre alone?

Because you push everyone away. And some day youíre gonna do the same thing with her.

Sheís not like you.

No?

By the way, I almost forgotÖyour brother called? Tryiní to track you down?

Left some longwinded message, something about finding your dadóabout him being sick?

You told me your dad was dead.

So this woman tracked me down from stuff in the old manís house.

She told me he was in Devore, of all places.

I dunno, I guess heís been liviní there for the past twelve years or so.

She gave me his number, and he didnít have a clue who I was.

I suppose his mindís kinda scrambled on account of all the pain meds they been giviní him.

I tried to remind him about stuff, like when we were kids, but he didnít remember.

They said when he was in the hospital, he asked about you.

What does he care about me? Or if heís got a granddaughter?

Donít you remember what he did to our family? He walked out, and it killed our mother.

The manís a freak of nature. He probably embalmed himself, the amount he drank.

Look, what you choose to do is your business.

Iím not going out of my way to subject my daughteró

LookóI gotta go.

I donít want anything to do with that man. He died a long time ago.

Iím sorry.

[childís laughter]

Doctors only gave him a few weeks, but thereís nothing they can do for him.

[crying]

[crying]

[crying]

Iím so sorry, baby.

Why do you and Daddy still fight?

BecauseÖit takes time, darling.

Can I give my picture to Grandpa?

If heís sick, it will make him better.

Go back to sleep.

But I wanna play with him in his magic garden.

He doesnít have a magic garden

How do you know?

[childís laughter]

[childís laughter]

Is Daddy gonna marry Angie?

I donít know. Has he said something?

No. Itís just theyíre always laughing and kissing.

I donít think that means theyíre gonna get married.

You and Daddy used to laugh and kiss when you were married.

If he does, and they have a baby, will he still love me? He wonít forget me, will he?

He will always love you.

So this woman I told you aboutÖI guess she works in a bar near his place.

She said he collapses and no one found him for a couple days and,

well, I guess no one wouldíve except the dog was goiní crazy.

He couldía died right there.

Melissa?

Thank you.

You really have your granddaddyís eyes.

You said on the phone youíve known my father for the last twelve years.

Did he drink here?

Yíknow, as far as I remember, he never touched a drop.

He basically just did work around here.

[childís laughter]

Whyíd you say your dad was dead when heís not?

Donít you love him?

Itís not as simple as that.

But heís still my grandpa, right?

Yeah. Heís your grandpa.

Amy!

Hello?

I painted you a picture. Itís you and me in a magic garden, Grandpa.

Helen?
